Vice-principal of KDA School, Professor Syed Asghar Zaidi killed

Vice-principal of KDA School, Professor Syed Asghar Zaidi, who was killed in an act of target killing late Thursday, was laid to rest on Friday. Zaidi was killed while returning to his house along with his wife, Shabana Bibi after attending Dua-e-Kumail in IRC Imambargah, Ayesha Manzil. Armed riders sprayed bullets, which resulted in Zaidi succumbing to his injuries on the spot while his wife got injured. They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors termed Bibi’s condition out of danger. The victim’s funeral prayers were held at an Imambargah in Ancholi Society and he was later laid to rest at Wadi-e-Hussain graveyard. His father-in-law, Ansar Zaidi is a well-known marsia khwa. Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) condemned the incident and demanded law enforcers to arrest the culprits. “Gradually, Pakistan is becoming no-go area for us,” said MWM central leader, Allama Ejaz. “At one-side Shias are being targeted on sectarian basis and on the other hand, law enforcers are arresting our people.
The law enforcers should tell which neighbouring country is supporting criminals in Pakistan to target and kill our people.” On the contrary, police officials have ruled out the possibility of extortion, personal enmity and/or robbing bid to be the motives behind the incident. “As per our initial investigation, it was an act of target killing occurred over sectarian basis,” says the SHO Chaudhry Shahid. The officer said that empty shells of pistols used in the killing have been collected and further investigation has been initiated. No case was registered as the police was waiting for the complainant. Targeted killing of Professor Asghar Zaidi amounts to the killing of education in Karachi, said Allama Aijaz Behishti, central leader of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen. “He was an asset to Pakistan, whose murder is a national tragedy,” said Allama Behishti; he was speaking after Namaz-e-Janaza of Professor Zaidi at Ancholi on Friday. Allama Abbas Kumaili, head of Jafaria Alliance also attended the funeral and urged the police officers, particularly the CID, to eliminate terrorists instead of patronising the outlawed/banned terrorist outfit leaders. He asked the government to take notice of irresponsible statements from SP CID that could spark inter-sectarian fanaticism by allegations lacking substance. Amid slogans saying, “Shia and Sunnis are brothers,” mourners shouldered the coffins of the martyred professor.Daily Times.
