Around 30 girl students of Political Science Department of the University of Peshawar (UoP) participated in a training session on peace-building and conflict transformation.
Usually, girls don’t have such opportunities to express themselves and learn about playing their role in resolving current issues,” said Erum Bibi, coordinator of the group which participated in a training organised by Paiman Alumni Trust.
Girls from remote districts who study in the UoP and often never go for such training due to conservative background, participated in the all-girls sessions.
Some even took part in role-playing to highlight the current situation in the country.
They highlighted how conflict, targeted killings, etc had affected the society and how the youth could play a role in promoting peace, she said.

Another participant praised Musarrat Qadeem, head of the trust, for giving them an opportunity to learn something at the session.

During the four-day training, the students were given information about conflict, its different types and shown a film “Fitna” to show them how negatively Islam was depicted in some of the Western countries.

They were also informed about how youth could play their role as volunteers to help others in disasters like earthquake while observing their own cultural norms.Dawn.
