Campus Radio University of Peshawar Marks Tenth Anniversary


Peshawar:The tenth anniversary of the first Campus Radio Station of South Asia was held at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication University of Peshawar. Chairman Press Council of Pakistan Raja Muhammad Shafqat Abbasi and Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan jointly cut the anniversary cake in a ceremony at JMC. Former Dean Faculty of Management of Information Sciences Prof. Dr. Shahjehan Syed, Prof. Dr. Altafullah, Chairman Department of Journalism and Mass Communication were also present on the occasion.
Campus Radio has been rendering tremendous services in imparting mass media skills to the students of the Journalism for a decade, said Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan in his address. This speaks high of the resolve of the University and its faculty to fill gap between theory and practical in field, he added.
A one day seminar on, “ Right to Information Leads to Empowerment of People“ was also held on the sidelines of the tenth anniversary function. Addressing the moot as a key note speaker Raja Muhammad Shafqat Abbasi said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken lead in introducing the Right Information Act which is a commendable step towards better governance and corruption free environment. He added that if properly implemented the government departments could be made accountable under the act which would ultimately lead to observance of merit in the institutions.
The Chairman PCP said that Pakistan along with other ninety four states have adopted the Right to Information Act while the latter has been able to overcome grey areas in the governance system of their respective countries. He urged the students of Journalism to report with responsibility, in the field, and keep national interest as their first priority.
Dr. Shahjehan Syed said that Campus Radio is the pioneer training institute that has produced skilled manpower working in FM Radio stations around the country and abroad.
Earlier Chairman Department of Journalism and Mass Communication Prof. Dr. Altafullah said that day was a special one for them as along with Campus Radio Anniversary, JMC has got twenty five years old, and are commemorating its silver jubilee. He paid rich tributes to the forty four year services of Prof. Dr. Shahjehan Syed to the University of Peshawar and Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
