1st Convocation of KGMC Hayatabad Held

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah has said that indeed, society owe the huge responsibility in making the educational facilities of desired standards available to students of medical education but in return, he added, being health professionals it is equally mandatory to them to maintain high moral and professional standards; enhance professional knowledge and skills and to follow the ethics and above all the commitment to serve the ailing humanity on their part.
Addressing as the chief guest at the First Convocation of Khyber Girls Medical College at Hayatabad in Peshawar on Thursday, the Governor further stressed that the government; the parents of students and the society as a whole have pinned great expectations to the graduating medical professionals and its hoped that all of them will come upto the expectations. Provincial minister for Health, Mr. Shaukat Ali Yousafzai who is also the Pro-Chancellor and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeezullah, Vice Chancellor of the Khyber Medical University and Prof. Dr. Abid Hussain, Principal of the College also spoke on this occasion. In all 120 graduates of four academic sessions concluded in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, Sadaf Abdullah with ten gold medals; Hira Khursheed with three; Kiran Javaid with six and Maham Qazi with five gold medals were adjudged best graduates of their respective sessions.
Responding to the points highlighted by the principal while presenting address of welcome, the Governor appreciated performance of the institutions and said, \”despite being a budding Medical Institute, its level of achievements is highly commendable and it is hoped that it will become as one of the best centers of learning for health sciences at the national level. The commencement of M.Phil Program and establishment of Central Research Laboratory at the College, he added, will definitely prove a source of strength to promote advanced research in the field of medical education. Within a short period of time, he remarked, this institution has established traditions of excellence, self-confidence and competence among its students and indeed all this has become possible because of meaningful learning process at the campus. What is even more encouraging is, the Governor said that the Khyber Girls Medical College has taken a lead amongst all the public sector medical colleges to adopt latest methods of teaching, the concept of problem based teaching in particular.
Referring to the demands regarding restoration of admission quota for children of employees and establishment of residential colony for faculty members of Khyber Girls Medical College; the Governor assured to take up their stance with the provincial government.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafeezullah in his speech said that female students across the world are excelling in academic fields and in our case too, 65 to 70% intake in medical colleges also comprises female lot. However, he added, the girls after having been married, loose their jobs. He urged the graduates to serve the ailing humanity and develop their skills and capabilities.
Prof. Dr. Abid Hussain while presenting the address of welcome said that since establishment of the institution, four batches have graduated from it. The campus of the college, spread over 30 kanals is complete in all respects wherein latest teaching and research facilities are available. Over the period, he said, the college has achieved highest pass percentage and its students bagged best top merit amongst girl students within the province. He requested the governor to help them in enhancement of intake strength; provision of land for construction of residential colony, etc. Earlier the Governor gave away degrees and gold medals to graduates. A special souvenir was also presented to the founder Principal of the College, Prof. Dr. Ziaul Islam in recognition of his valuable services for the college.
